Border Dispute: Meghalaya Extends Internet Shutdown For Another 48 Hours

Meghalaya authorities on Friday prolonged the web suspension for one more 48 hours within the seven districts of Meghalaya.

According to state police, social media platforms like Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and many others. have the potential to trigger a severe breakdown of the legislation and order.

Releasing a public order on Friday, within the wake of the untoward incident that occurred on the bordering areas of the Assam-Meghalaya border that killed six individuals, the Meghalaya authorities determined to proceed the web shutdown within the seven districts of the state particularly, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri – Bhoi, Eastern West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, and South West Khasi Hills Districts.

The web suspension within the stated districts will start from 10:30 am on November 26.

As reported earlier, rigidity gripped Meghalaya’s capital Shillong after miscreants on Thursday night torched a site visitors sales space and attacked three police autos, together with a metropolis bus.

The incident passed off throughout a candlelight vigil organised by some teams to protest towards the violence on the Assam-Meghalaya border on November 22. Six individuals, together with 5 from Meghalaya and a personnel of Assam Forest Guard, had been killed within the firing incident on the Mukroh space of the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.

As per data, the protesters hurled stones and petrol bombs at police forces deployed to calm tensions.

Security personnel had been compelled to lob tear gasoline shells to disperse the protesters and implement order, stated experiences.

Speaking to ANI over telephone, S. Nongtnger, SP of East Khasi Hills, Shillong, stated three police autos, together with a metropolis bus and a gypsy, had been broken within the incident.

“The miscreants torched a traffic booth in the city and hurled petrol bombs at police personnel,” the SP stated.

Earlier on Tuesday, six folks had been killed and several other others injured throughout an alleged conflict between villagers and a contingent comprising police and forest guards from Assam on Tuesday afternoon.

The alleged conflict passed off within the space bordering the West Karbi Anglong district of Assam and Mukroh village in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills. Among these killed was a forest guard from Assam.
