Four sadhus had been assaulted by a mob on the suspicion of being baby lifters in Maharashtra’s Sangli district on Tuesday, a video of which has gone viral. The incident occurred at Lavana village within the district. Armed with sticks, the mob was seen beating the sadhus exterior a grocery retailer within the presence of a number of onlookers.

Police, nonetheless, stated they haven’t obtained any criticism on this regard.

“We have not received any complaint or formal report, but are looking into the viral videos and verifying the facts. Necessary action to be taken,” stated Sangli SP Dikshit Gedam, in line with information company ANI.

The 4 sadhus from Uttar Pradesh had requested a boy for path whereas on their method to the temple city of Pandharpur from Karnataka’s Bijapur, which led to the locals suspecting that they might be from a gang that kidnaps kids, information company PTI reported citing the police.

The police discovered that the sadhus had been the members of an ‘akhada‘ in Uttar Pradesh, it stated.

Maharashtra BJP MLA Ram Kadam condemned the incident and stated the state authorities won’t tolerate such “misbehaviour” with the sadhus. Strict motion can be taken in opposition to the accused, he stated in a video message.

“In the sadhus killing case in Palghar, then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s government meted out injustice to them. But the current Maharashtra government will not allow any injustice against any sadhu,” he stated referring to the 2020 incident.
