Sports Minister’s Meeting With Protesting Wrestlers Ends Without Conclusion

Top Indian wrestlers’ assembly with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur remained inconclusive on Thursday evening as they refused to again down from their demand that the federal government instantly disband the Wrestling Federation of India.

The marathon assembly started round 10 pm on Thursday, the second day of the wrestlers’ protest towards WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

The wrestlers left Thakur’s home at 1:45 am and didn’t converse to the reporters ready outdoors.

Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia, Ravi Dahiya, Sakshi Malik and world championship medallist Vinesh Phogat had been a part of the assembly.

Mr Thakur flew to Delhi from Himachal Pradesh after an earlier assembly between authorities officers and the protesting wrestlers remained inconclusive.

The wrestlers will meet the Sports minister once more on Friday, in line with authorities officers.

The ministry can not power Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh to resign until it receives a written reply from the WFI because the authorities itself has requested the wrestling physique for an evidence.

The WFI is but to reply to the Sports Ministry, which on Wednesday gave the wrestling physique 72 hours to reply to allegations of sexual harassment of a number of girl athletes and intimidation by its president.

According to sources, the federal government desires the wrestlers to finish their protest however the athletes are adamant that the WFI needs to be disbanded first.

“The government can resolve other issues later. We are fine with that, but it must disband the WFI first,” a supply near the wrestlers instructed PTI.

A group of wrestlers, together with Bajrang, Vinesh, Anshu Malik, Sakshi and her husband Satyawrat Kadiyan met authorities officers earlier on Thursday and mentioned their points with Sports Secretary Sujata Chaturvedi and Sports Authority of India Director General Sandip Pradhan.

During the hour-long assembly, the wrestlers had been requested to finish their protest and warranted that their grievances will probably be addressed.
